Project Description

In August of 2007, a proposal was made to create an intercollegiate competition of robotic football representing their respective schools.  In the Notre Dame spirit of competition, a request was made to exhibit a robotic game of football the morning of the school's traditional “Blue/Gold Game,” a scrimmage played every spring in Notre Dame Stadium.

Our group's objective for this project was to cooperate with seniors of the school of Mechanical Engineering to satisfy their needs of a control board to control a robot player remotely.  To do this we needed to work in collaboration with a second senior Electrical Engineering group in charge of Remote Signal management.

This control board is designed for robots competing in an 8 vs. 8 American football match.  The frequent contact and large impact forces endured while playing football requires that the control board has great durability.  The presence of 16 unique robots in the playing field also requires that the unique wireless signals do not interfere with one another and affect control of the robots.
