Main Board Evolution

We created two PCBs for this project. Our main PCB houses nearly everything except the TOF Sensors, and a breakout board exclusively handles the TOF Sensors. Our main PCB went through 3 different design iterations before we ordered it, and we made our breakout board on our first try.

Iteration 1

Our first iteration was very inspired by the practice mouse board we were given. Because of this, it was a little larger than intended.

In the second version, we were able to optimize routing to make the board more compact.

Iteration 3

We made larger changes for our final design: We replaced the Schottky/PMOS power path with a manual switch for USB/Battery selection to simplify the circuit and added a Mode button and status LED.

The front side of the breakout board houses the mounting points for our Time of Flight (TOF) sensors.

We had 3 TOF sensors mounted on the mouse with three boards we created pictured above. One pointing left, right, and one on the front.

We originally used the VL53LOX, but we swapped it for the VL53L4CD for improved short range performance.

We used a singular 3.7 V LIPO rechargable battery. We had two of them that we would swap between during testing.

We used a 150 RPM DC motor with a 1:100 gear ratio to drive our mouse. We had an encoder on each motor as well.
